Once again this year, we took part in the traditional Science Night at the IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Center. At the EDIH Ostrava stand, we showcased the results of one of our collaborations, this time with Phottr, a company whose app enables users to take and edit product photographs directly on their mobile phones.
Visitors, especially children, had the opportunity to discover how easily artificial intelligence can be used to create professional-looking product photos. Using a mobile phone and the Phottr app, they photographed a wide variety of objects – from toys and fashion accessories to flowers and supercomputer components. Within just a few dozen seconds, the app transformed an ordinary snapshot into a photograph that even a professional photographer would be proud of.
We then printed the finished photos and displayed them on a board, where visitors could come up with their own creative advertising slogans. In this way, AI-powered technology was combined with human imagination and creativity.
Among the most frequently photographed objects were a wind-up chicken, red high heels, discarded components from Ostrava’s supercomputers, and a model of a yellow Porsche. One of the biggest surprises came when the app transformed a photo of fashion accessories into an image featuring a model wearing them.
Phottr also contributed to the activity by providing a licence for its app.
Our participation in Science Night was an opportunity to show the general public how digitalisation and innovation are part of our everyday lives.
