On Friday, 26 September 2025, the European Digital Innovation Hub Ostrava presented its activities at the Researchers’ Night, a traditional nationwide event aimed at bringing science closer to the general public. This was also the case at IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Center in Ostrava, where those interested in science and technology could learn not only about supercomputers but also about various scientific projects, including the activities of the EDIH Ostrava.
At the EDIH Ostrava stand entitled “Grab a trowel and let’s get planting,” visitors tried their hand at planting seeds, chives, and lettuce in pots, which they then took home with them. The program followed up on a successful case study with the Ostrava-based MoraviaLab company, which used the services of the EDIH Ostrava to design a smart growing system. This system allows companies and institutions to grow their own microgreens directly in the workplace, efficiently, sustainably, and using smart technologies.
Gardening enthusiasts, both children and adults, learned that although they now have to take care of their newly planted seedlings themselves, there are technologies available today that can completely automate this care. The activity was complemented by a video spot that gave a closer look at the process of growing microgreens and showed how new technological approaches are being applied to it.
This EDIH activity was also supported by our partners – MoravoSeed, which provided seeds, and Weiss Garden Center from Otice, which supplied flowerpots.
Participation in the Researchers’ Night provided an opportunity to show the general public that digitalisation and innovation also have applications in everyday life.
